Opening Fete - Balanse Gede
Come celebrate the opening of “Balanse Gede” on Friday, October 10, 2025 starting at 6pm.
In honor of our ancestors, we are proud to be bringing you this immersive experience with the beautiful works of six Haitian artists.
Come in your Gede vibes dressed in black, white and purple.
Balanse Gede
Balanse Gede is a vibrant 4-week long group exhibition exploring Haitian Vodou, ancestral reverence. The sacred celebration of Fet Gede is opening Monday, October 6 at Lakay Sakre. This gallery dives deep into the beauty, humor, and reverence of Haiti’s festival of the dead.
Present by Art Ayiti, curated by Yvena Despagne and co-curated by Jennica Francoise. The show features dynamic works from artists across disciplines, including installations, paintings, photography, sculpture, and illustration. Step into the spirit world this Gede season with Balanse Gede, honoring Haitian ancestry, Vodou traditions, and the celebration of life & death.

ReVodution Meet & Greet
The ReVodution community came together last weekend at Lakay Sakre to celebrate connection, learning, and ancestral remembrance.
The evening featured a ReVodution film screening commemorating 10 years since its creation, sparking meaningful conversations about Afro-spirituality, diaspora connections, and reclaiming ancestral wisdom.
We gathered at the ancestral feeding altar for prayers, shared in a sacred feeding ritual, and closed the night with a communal dinner that brought us even closer together.
ART EXHIBITION: VLADIMYR WALTER
As an artist, Vladimyr Walters is not limited by indolence or a lack of motivation. He experiments with visual and pictorial media in an attempt to captivate our imaginations by offering a window into the fantastical. It was a privilege for Lakay Sakre to host Vladimyr's Art Exhibit in the fall of 2024. If you would like to buy any of the artwork that is on exhibit, please get in touch with us.
KOUZEN ZAKA STE. CROIX DINNER
Lakay Sakre had the honor of serving the community traditional Haitian soup "Tchaka" in honor of Lwa Kouzen Zaka. Kouzen is the patron of agriculture in Haiti. He is widely respected because of his well-known capacity to work continuously. Vodouyizan refer to Kouzen's wife as Kouzine, and together they govern the nasyon of Djouba. Lakay Sakre gave thanks for all their hard work, which allows this sosyete to continue serving the community.
